A GOOD PLACE TO START (written by Leandro Diana) He put down the receiver, there was nothing more to say A cold front was a-coming, the night stealing from the day One step ‘fore the outdoor he turned and headed for the bar A cold beer on a barstool is a good place to start It wasn’t very dark yet, the sun could still bite John Fogerty was singing “long as I can see the light” that tree been there for decades when it wrecked the car apart Then the first breath was a promise dropping the bottle was a good place to start Sometimes there’s an open road sometimes there’s just a jam you get stuck into your doubts while life runs ‘round the bend sometimes you just stay awake sometimes you dream a spark and some days an odd dream is a good place to start She woke early in the morning, she just couldn’t sleep no more Her belly feeling funny, questions spinning on her fore Her school was on and his job gone, hard times could tear them apart But a warm bed and a baby were a good place to start Sometimes there’s an open road sometimes there’s just a jam you get stuck into your doubts while life runs ‘round the bend sometimes you just stay awake sometimes you dream a spark and some days an odd dream is a good place to start sometimes a happy ending is a good place to start

Bring it on 06:11
BRING IT ON (written by Leandro Diana) I never wrote a song about this story I never wrote a song about you I never found a log in this river And sometimes it’s hard to swim and breathe The water’s sweet and warm And the leaves caress your skin now And some branches give some shadow And the birds sing a song that sounds like joy But the waterfall’s awaiting And the stones are sharp and cold And the sea is wide and deep And the wild winds are gonna howl Bring it on, bring it on till the oceans don’t run dry, bring it on bring it on, bring it on say my name, stand by my side, and bring it on The blacktop is often rocky on this highway And no sign is here to teach you where to go And the traffic always seems to be smoother On the other roads you see when you peek around But the water’s always waiting And the sun is shining bright If driving tires me, take it over Please, hold my hand while I dive Bring it on, bring it on till the oceans don’t run dry, bring it on bring it on, bring it on say my name, stand by my side, and bring it on

Drive 03:58
DRIVE (written by Leandro Diana) In the dark the lights flash by on the sides And the silence is broken by the rising tide Hands hold on tight, ‘cause they know what to do But there’s a taste in your mouth don’t know what’s up with you Maybe it’s just the joy for the future bright or the familiar hold of the same old fright maybe you lost your place in the human hive but right now the only certainty is all you wanna do is drive Thank god the night is still long and the blacktop’s too For once don’t matter if someone’s waiting for you ‘Cause the tank is full and the wind howls free Eyes steady on the road but it’s not through them you see Maybe it’s just the joy for the future bright or the familiar hold of the same old fright maybe you lost your place in the human hive but right now the only certainty is all you wanna do… …is turn the radio loud and leave it all behind ‘cause it’s not about love and maybe not about pain ‘cause now all you need is lose, not find Maybe it’s just the joy for the future bright or the familiar hold of the same old fright maybe you lost your place in the human hive but right now the only certainty is all you wanna do is drive

EVERY SINGLE SMILE (written by Leandro Diana) I’ve been down the streets, on my own two feet Trying to understand my mind Shuffling my blues in my own worn shoes I was only losing time So I called it a day, on the dock of the bay Thinking “damn, let’s wait and see” Then a smile and a tan put some ink to my pen When she stopped and sat by me Every drop of water – every grain of sand every blow of evening breeze shoves you into another day Every word of wisdom – every single smile just a little crust of human bread can turn a fall into a may Never saw you here, won’t you mind a beer? Sunset makes a sweeter tide Her sunglasses down and, god, that gown! All my senses fell aside Y’know, I’ve been down the streets on my own two feet Trying to understand this world I tried to make my stand, now I don’t give a damn Won’t you step with me onboard Every drop of water – every grain of sand every blow of evening breeze shoves you into another day Every word of wisdom – every single smile just a little crust of human bread can turn a fall into a may every little crust of human bread can make you wanna stay

Dirty faces 03:32
DIRTY FACES (written by Leandro Diana) I was walking in the shadow in the shadow of a doubt I heard voices all around me between the whisper and the shout So I walked down to the waters where the waters meet the land There I found out dirty faces mercy words and helping hands When the silence turned to music and the mud turned to stomping ground Suddenly there in the rhythm what’s been lost has been found On that day I decided that I’d follow the path I chose on that day I realized that my happiness embraced my blues

FORGET TO SING (written by Leandro Diana) I was looking for my voice in the silence of a room I was looking for my voice in the silence of a room Sure I wasn’t out of trouble but my flowers were in bloom So one day I just decided to take a step outside one day I just decided I’d take a step outside and my voice was just right there just one step beyond my pride Then I picked up my guitar trying to write a song to sing Then I picked up my guitar trying to write a song to sing And she played to me the answer “it’s your rags that make you king” If you listened to my story, now you’re gettin’ what I mean If you listened to my story, now you’re gettin’ what I mean That your heart may stay in trouble only if you forget to sing

I was there 03:36
I WAS THERE (written by Leandro Diana) I was there, singing my blues I was there, with nothing left to lose I was there, hidden in plain sight I was there, paying the price for my pride I was there standing unused I was there a little dazed and confused I was there searching a crutch I was there maybe just losing my touch But there I was, on my own There I was because my fuse was blown There I was, feeling down There I was, a fool wearing a crown There was thunder, there was rain, there was nothing that could ease my pain there were clouds, there was sun, there was time to pick my rags up and run I was there out of breath I was there about to place my bet I was there holding my cup I was there almost windin’ it up So there I was, on that very day There I was, on my knees to pray There I was, in that place There I was, with no way out of the maze There was thunder, there was rain, there was nothing that could ease my pain there were clouds, there was sun, there was time to pick my rags up and run I was there, singing the blues I was there, with nothing left to lose I was there, in plain sight I was there, trying to rescue my pride

about

BRING IT ON is Leandro Diana's third full length album, following the acclaimed "Dirty Hands and Gravel Roads" by three years and collecting seven new original songs and (for the first time) two covers. The unreleased tracks were all written in an unusual rush of inspiration over the span of a week in June 2021, and then set aside to mature until an opportunity presented itself to assemble a band to arrange and record the new record. Thus drummer Deneb Bucella on drums (Jazz Lab Orchestra, Nation of Giants, Goodwines), guitarist and lap steel player Luca Andrea Crippa (No Rolling Back, Mr. Saturday Night Special, Ruben Minuto Band) and bassist-singer Francesco Michele Naccarato recorded the basic tracks at the “Appartamento Sonoro” (the studio owned by their friend Ruben Minuto) in just one day. A bunch of friends joined as guests: Andrea Palumbo (Rolling Forks, Yellow Dogs) on blues harp, Enrico "Ed The Blues Baker" Damiani (A Little Bit Of Soul) on piano and hammond organ, and Ruben Minuto on background vocals.
BRING IT ON, more than the previous records, is the result of a band effort, enriched by the free and creative contribution of each musician who participated, with Leandro taking care of guitars (acoustic, electric, resonator and slide), vocals and production (recording, mixing and mastering).
A couple of covers were added from the repertoires of the two tutelary gods of the recording sessions: John Hiatt ("Train to Birmingham") and Ry Cooder ("Crazy 'bout an automobile").
The music is full Americana, with episodes in Texan country à la Guy Clark (the initial ballad "A good place to start"), in the Stax-school soul ("Every single smile", "I was there"), in the blues/swing a la B.B. King ("Forget to sing") to the gospel of "Dirty faces", without forgetting the rock energy of the title track. The sound is deliberately raw, in the attempt to reproduce the sound of four friends playing together live in a recording studio.
